Program Planning, Implementation and Evaluation - Effectively plan, implement, and evaluate programs that promote student and family success.Consultation and Collaboration - On behalf of students and their families, consult and collaborate with outside agencies to arrange appropriate programs and services to meet the needs of eligibility students.Advocacy - Advocates for appropriate services for students and their families. ![]() ○ Serve on the Child Study Chairperson Team for difficult cases ○ Assist schools with issues concerning student academic and behavioral performance in school ○ Obtain and provide a written report of socio-cultural information for children who are referred for special education assessments (for eligibility meetings) ○ Assist the Eligibility Chairperson in implementing a plan to complete evaluations for non-public school caseloads, as well as for the hearing impaired and visually impaired students ○ Ensure that the appropriate bilingual services are provided during the referral, evaluation and placement approved for students who are English Language Learners (ELLs) ○ Ensure that all information regarding all changes in student status, e.g., enrollment and discharges are accurately maintained in the student information system ○ Conduct comprehensive reviews of referrals received for special education evaluation to ascertain completeness of all required elements, including documentation of prior interventions ○ Participate in caseload management planning to coordinate resources for appropriate and timely completion of assessment and placement assignments Use knowledge and understanding of the reciprocal influences of home, school, and community to intervene for student success via such practices as:.Assessment of Student, Family and School Needsv- Effectively and appropriately assess and address the needs, characteristics and interactions of students, families, local education agency (LEA) personnel and community.Reports to: Building Principal/Administrator and MH Coordinator Good communication skills and the wiliness/ability to work with all who are involved in the student’s education.Ability to prepare clear and concise written documents and to make oral presentations. ![]() Knowledge of Continuum of Special Education programs and service options.Endorsed as School Social Worker or School Counselor or hold a Master's of Social Work.The Student Assistant Specialist significantly contributes to the development of a healthy, safe and caring environment by advancing the understanding of the emotional and social development of children and the influences of family, community, and cultural differences on student success and by implementing effective intervention strategies.The Student Assistant Specialist (SAS) promotes and enhances the overall academic mission by providing services that strengthen home/school/community partnerships and alleviate barriers to learning. ![]() JOB DESCRIPTION: Student Assistant Specialist(SAS)
